Haiti Living Water Outreach Day 1 – October 4, 2013

Haiti Living Water Trip Update October 4, 2013

The first two days of our trip will be spent with mostly travel.  Our team met at Austin Bergstrom Airport around 10:30 AM to balance out baggage for weight concerns with our supplies and check-in. Vicky Weller, a member of last years team, sent us off with a quick prayer.

Our team is made up of:

Haiti Team 2013

Kenny Green, Tracy and Carol McGinty, Lois DeSimone, Ken Belt, Susan Cooper, Dana and Stephen Callendar, Corey Schwarz, Mike Weller, Josh Jones, Randy Boyd, and our Living Water Lead Matt Dearmon.

We flew through Dallas to Miami Dade on Friday landing around 9 PM and will stay the night before departing for Haiti Saturday morning leaving the hotel around 4:45 AM.  Hopefully we will eventually arrive in Cap-Haitian around 4:30 Saturday afternoon.

A little about Haiti…..

Haiti is one of the poorest countries in the Western Hemisphere and one of the poorest in the world.  It struggles with unemployment and massive income inequality. Corruption and poor access to education contribute to sustained economic difficulties, even as millions in financial aid pours into the country due to the earthquake several years ago.

  • Population: 10,123,787
  • Life Expectancy: 62
  • Rural Population not using safe water resources: 49%
  • Rural Population not using safe sanitation: 90%

Thank you for your continued prayers and support.  We will continue to post updates as we have connectivity.
